About Me
Hi, my name is Lisa but feel free to call me Lou. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Addictions Counselor., and Nationally Board Certified Counselor. Before becoming a therapist, my background was in anthropology research, human rights activism and advocacy, and academic counseling. This has led me to be a seeker with a true curiosity, desire to explore, and passion to learn from others, walk with others on their path, and provide support and tools for self-discovery, acceptance, and growth.
I have worked with students in the university setting to identify their academic goals while navigating life, I have worked with court ordered clients where I specialized in domestic violence, anger management, substance abuse, and trauma. I then worked in community mental health where I specialized in gender identity, grief, life transitions, mood and personality disorders, relationship issues, spiritual connection, and trauma.
I believe therapy isn't just for crisis, but it's to address our every day lives, that can feel disconnecting, discouraging, and disempowering. I came to therapy in search of meaning, purpose, and deep curiosity of what all of this means. Whether you come to therapy for the same reason, or to address pain and suffering in your life, to heal from trauma, to repair a relationship, to solve an immediate problem, or anything in between; you will be met with acceptance, nonjudgment, and support. You are the expert, I am honored to walk this journey with you in order to cultivate self-acceptance and compassion; learn to know, nurture, and express your emotions in a way that is authentic and kind to you; build connection; gain clarity on what you need to pursue your life worth living; and find your strength.
I was born and raised in North Florida and moved to Colorado 15 years ago for graduate school and I never left! I'm most myself when I'm in the forest or near the water and with the people and animals I love the most. I enjoy taking walks, going to concerts, playing board games, cooking with my husband, and playing with my two curious cats.
I run a private practice out of Lakewood and currently, my services are available remotely, through video and phone, so all Coloradans are welcome.
I'm honored for the opportunity to hear you and help you.
